WHAT IS YOUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACH?
Perhaps the most frequently asked question I get is, “What is your modality?” or theoretical approach to therapy. Although I find it most useful to use somewhat of an eclectic approach, giving the space and freedom to mold therapy around the client, I am most inclined to use the Self Psychology approach.
Psychoanalytic Theory has changed along with society and culture. The classical analytic theory ascribes to the belief that the mind of man is in a state that exits separately from the physical world.
In sharp contrast, Self Psychology proposes that it is predominantly one’s relation to his/her primary self-objects, and the surrounding environment, which will mold the human mind, and result in the behavioral patterns of an individual.
In other words, Self Psychology addresses itself to relationships and their internalization, distortions, and repetition.
ARE YOUR SERVICES CONFIDENTIAL?
All personal information discussed in therapy is completely confidential and cannot be released to a third party without your written consent, except under special circumstances when the law requires disclosure. Example: If you are a danger to yourself or others, elder abuse, child abuse, or with a court ordered subpoena.
DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
It is best for you to find out about your benefits, as they differ from provider to provider. I make available to you documentation that you may submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Unless special arrangements are made in advance, payment is due at the beginning of each session.
IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HAVING A MALE OR FEMALE THERAPIST?
Some people feel more comfortable talking with a woman, others feel more comfortable talking with a man. A qualified therapist of either gender can be beneficial. It is important for you to be comfortable with your therapist. It is not uncommon to meet with several therapists before making a decision about with whom you want to work.
CAN PSYCHOTHERAPY ENHANCE MY CREATIVITY?
Actors, writers, and others in the creative arts often discover they are more creative and/or productive as a result of their work in the therapy.
